Screenings and Health & Wellness Services
Vision Screenings: Vision screenings are conducted by the Health Services staff for students in KG, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades. Students who have been prescribed glasses are not screened. Vision screening does not take the place of a complete eye exam. The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends all children receive a complete medical eye exam prior to school enrollment and every 1-2 years after age five.
Hearing Screenings: Hearing screenings are conducted by the Health Services staff for students in Kindergarten. A hearing screening does not take the place of a complete hearing evaluation. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's (ASHA) guidelines state that healthy individuals, who are not experiencing any noticeable hearing loss, should have their hearing tested every three to five years. Contact the school office to request a consultation with the Speech-Language Pathologist if you have a concern regarding your child’s hearing.
Delta Dental: Delta Dental of Idaho provides a biennial mobile dental clinic for KG, 1st, 2nd, 7th, and 8th graders. These clinics, performed by professional hygienists, include fluoride varnish and dental sealants. A permission form is required to access this service.
SWDH Dental Program: A fluoride varnish program is provided for students in Kindergarten. A dental hygienist from the Southwest District Health Department (SWDH) visits elementary schools annually. A permission form is required to access this service.
Idaho Smile Survey 2023: This survey is conducted every four years to monitor the oral health status of third-grade children. Survey results will help provide preventive oral health services for children. A permission form is required to participate in the survey.
Growth and Development Class: Students in 5th grade participate in a program on growth and development each year. The program presents information on the phases of maturing in a simple but professional format. A parent preview is available prior to the presentation. Contact the school nurse for questions regarding this program.
