Welcome to Vallivue School District!
Every day, almost 7,300 students, from pre-kindergarten through 12th
grade, walk through the front doors of our 6 elementaries, 3 middle, and 2
high schools, as well as our on-line school, to journey on their educational
path toward college or career. In doing so, they are exposed to a multitude
of educational opportunities made available through the support of the
taxpayers of the Vallivue School District.
Since its beginning in 1961 Vallivue has enjoyed extraordinary
support from its patrons.
This school year, has started off as a bellwether year by virtue of
students’ outstanding academic success.
Two schools have received the
2011 Idaho Distinguished School Award from the Idaho State Board of
Education. Lakevue and Desert
Springs Elementaries were 2 of only 12 schools statewide to receive this
prestigious and hard-earned recognition.
At the national level, Lakevue
Elementary was recognized as a
National Title 1 award winner for extraordinary achievement by students
in math, language arts and reading, one of only 50 such honorees in the
nation.
Vallivue Middle School was
honored with the NASSP Breakthrough
Schools Award for dramatically improving student achievement while
implementing strategies aligned with collaborative leadership;
personalization; and curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
I was especially proud of our school district last Friday when it was
announced by the Albertson Foundation that
Vallivue High School was awarded a
prize of $100,000 for having the greatest increase in the state in
enrollment by students in upper-level math and science classes. The
announcement was a great honor for our math and science departments, but it
didn’t mention that VHS also tied for the greatest increase in enrollment in
AP and dual credit classes. Vallivue High School could have taken all
of the prize money in the large school division! This honor is really
something that is shared by all Vallivue schools. Our elementary
schools do a great job of preparing students for the next level, and our
middle schools have ramped up their expectations of students in recent
years, sending a consistent message that students should prepare
academically for challenging courses in high school and plan on going on to
college.
Congratulations
to our Championship Class! Ms. Woods’ third grade class at
Birch Elementary has won the 3rd
Annual Idaho Math Cup, part of the Apangea Math program! An award
assembly at Birch Elementary, accompanied by Idaho’s First Lady Lori Otter
and Tom Luna, will honor the winners who used teamwork and showed incredible
perseverance to earn this honor. The students will receive t-shirts, a pizza
party, as assembly, and the coveted Idaho Cup Trophy!
Sage Valley Middle School
is sending two teams to Moscow to participate in the first Lego League
State Robotics Competition at
the University of Idaho. Good luck to our teams, the Nerdy Chicks and Lego
Hunger. Lego Hunger placed first in the Core Values area by showing
cooperation, collaboration, and gracious professionalism at its best.
The Nerdy Chicks took the tournament award with their enthusiasm and spirit
throughout the day.
Our commitment to the community we serve is to do everything we can to
ensure each student’s academic and extracurricular success. Our vision
focuses on preparing students for future success through rigorous
preparation for life beyond high school.
As our students graduate, we are confident that we are preparing them
to be trustworthy, hard-working, wise and capable of honorable service to
their family, community and nation.
Sincerely,
Dr. Pat Charlton, Superintendent
